There are pros and cons to Manchester United’s surprising reliance on players from their development programme this season.
Some have weathered the storm and cemented their spots on the first squad, while the futures of the rest are uncertain.
Nonetheless, the club’s players had an opportunity to shine, unlike their loaned-out counterparts who were unable to get playing time.
United supporters were drooling over Dan Gore before the season even started because of his talent, determination, and passion to achieve.
After spending the first part of the season on loan with Port Vale due to a lack of playing time, the midfielder rejoined the club in the second half.
Upon completion of his loan period in the summer, Gore will return to Old Trafford, as announced by the Valiants.
Because of injuries and a team in disarray, Gore hardly played any time on his loan at Vale Park.
Despite playing for Vale for two years in competitive One, Gore was only able to achieve 54 minutes of competitive action this season as the club was demoted to League Two.
His growth has been halted amid a change of managers, a free-falling club, and a dysfunctional squad. It goes without saying that he failed to make an effect during his time on the field.
With new ownership and lofty goals for the club, United will be a different place when Gore returns this summer.
Even though he will have another opportunity to shine in preseason, Gore’s chances of making it big at United are probably already gone due to the many unknowns surrounding the club, the most notable of which being the manager’s future.
I feel bad for the guy because his career may have taken a different turn if he had stayed at United during the winter transfer window, when there were so many injuries. He would have gotten more playing time than he did at Vale.
