With the arrival of Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s transfer recruiting team additions seem to be moving forward.
After making an impression at Southampton and throughout his ten-year tenure at Manchester City, Jason Wilcox is on the verge of joining Manchester United.
With a deal almost finalised, Wilcox will be crucial to United’s future.
Manchester United has begun pursuing Wilcox after objecting to Newcastle’s demand for Dan Ashworth.
The transfer of Jason Wilcox from Southampton to Manchester United seems to be moving closer as Fabrizio Romano provided an optimistic update on the player’s future, saying that he is just in talks with the Red Devils.
Wilcox has been well-liked by United for a while after serving as an academy director for ten years at his hometown team, Manchester City, where he helped players like Rico Lewis, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and others reach the pinnacle of stardom at the Etihad Stadium. All three of these players have since made significant strides in their brief careers.
Wilcox’s credentials allowed him to sell the quartet of Romeo Lavia, James Ward-Prowse, Nathan Tella, and Tino Livramento for a total fee spanning over £130 million after moving to Southampton in the summer in a more transfer-based role. United has taken notice of Wilcox’s strong first season at St. Mary’s. With other clubs seemingly out of the picture, Romano thinks a deal is near for him to make the cross-town transfer to Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano: “A Significant Meeting”
The Southampton player is almost ready to go back up north, with Erik ten Hag, the manager, and football director John Murtough of Manchester United spectating from the stands.
Speaking in his Daily Briefing, Romano asserted that Wilcox will be even more important to bring in for the Red Devils now that John Murtough has left as Sporting Director. However, that will happen soon as he was unable to reach an agreement with Liverpool to join the 13-time Premier League champions.
“Jason Wilcox will be a significant addition after doing outstanding work at Southampton and formerly at Manchester City’s academy. John Murtough just departed the team. He didn’t communicate with Liverpool or any other team until Manchester United called him; it was a tremendously significant chance for him.
“It’s only about an arrangement with Southampton at this point since he has a deal with United about a contract. He seems to be a valuable asset to United both now and in the future because of his exceptional ability to develop young players.”
Manchester United: The most recent Sporting Director
Dan Ashworth, a player from rival Premier League team Newcastle, signed to a personal deal with United earlier in the summer, and he was soon projected to join the Old Trafford team.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: With the exception of Manchester City (1, Jack Grealish), Chelsea (2, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo), and Arsenal (1, Declan Rice), Manchester United is one of only three “Big Six” teams never to have spent £100 million or more on a single player.
But the Red Devils baulked at the asking price after learning that the Magpies valued their sports director at £20 million, and Ashworth is still on gardening leave from the St. James’ Park team as of right now.
Wilcox has been eyed for a somewhat different position, but it seems that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to duplicate the football foundations that City has established and relished in recent years, especially with the addition of Omar Berrada as CEO.
