Three possible substitutes for Marcus Rashford have allegedly been identified by Manchester United.
The England international’s ineffective play this season stands in stark contrast to his finest individual performance, which occurred in 2022–23.
In 40 games across all competitions, he has managed only eight goals and five assists; a significant portion of those appearances have come from either wing.
In an effort to help the veteran striker return to his peak performance, head coach Erik ten Hag openly backed him last week, stating that the player deserved the support of the supporters.
The new transfer hierarchy at the Red Devils, according to a report that surfaced on Monday, is reportedly open to offers for most of the first-team players.
Is Rashford possibly going anywhere?
The future of Rashford at Old Trafford is uncertain. Any interested teams would have to be ready to satisfy his salary demands, and United would only contemplate a sale if they received a large offer, according to the story in question.
Even though they won’t be playing in the Champions League, United know that selling a domestic player would help them comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s minority owner and man in charge of football operations, has reportedly already come up with three potential replacements for Marcus Rashford in anticipation of the summer transfer window.
It would need United to sell Rashford or another star player to make room for the three in question, given their current PSR position and the level they currently play at.
Who are the three rumoured candidates for the last roster spot?
United reportedly have an eye on Raphinha’s position at Barcelona. The Brazilian has been impressive this season, appearing in 32 games in La Liga and the Champions League, and contributing eight goals and eleven assists.
But there have been persistent rumours that Barcelona might sell the 27-year-old to help with their own financial problems, with estimates putting his asking price at €60 million (£51.21 million).
United are allegedly interested in AC Milan striker Rafael Leao as well, even though the Portuguese player has signed a long-term deal and is worth €150 million (£128.03 million).
Leao has 11 goals and 11 assists in 41 games for United in Serie A and Europe, so they may try to negotiate a lesser price.
It is unclear whether Napoli will be able to hold on to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who they value at over €80 million (£68.28 million), if they are unable to participate in European play.
Even though Kvaratskhelia has a hat trick of goals and assists in the Italian Serie A this season, Napoli are only ninth in the league.
