Ralf Rangnick has put an end to rumours that he would replace Thomas Tuchel as Bayern Munich manager this summer, thereby ending his potential comeback to professional football. Manchester United are getting ready to follow the 65-year-old’s brutally honest counsel two years after he leads Austria into Euro 2024.
He has extensive coaching experience in Germany and was most recently the head coach of RB Leipzig twice until 2019, when he was named global sports director for Red Bull.
In December 2021, the German took over as United manager temporarily, succeeding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer until the season ended.
With an injured roster to work with, Rangnick won only 11 of 29 games (38 percent) while leading the team. They tied nine times and lost eleven.
After he accepted the position in Austria, he and United came to an understanding that he wouldn’t be continuing in the two-year consulting role they had agreed upon.
After two years away, he has confirmed that winning the European Championships and beyond with Austria is his first priority, ruling out any possibility of a return to club football with Bayern.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe may be in charge of an evacuation.
Oh no. What is the point? Here, I am at ease. After the European Championships, Rangnick told Sport 1 that his contract will remain in effect until 2026 and that the team’s objectives and trajectory would go on.
Rangnick was best known for his forthright evaluations of United’s situation in interviews and news conferences, even though his time there was abysmal.
At the beginning of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s tenure as Red Devils manager, his suggestion that the team undergo “open-heart surgery” after a 4-0 loss to Liverpool in April 2022 may come to fruition.
During Erik ten Hag’s two summer transfer windows as manager, he has made several cuts to his team. Off the field, however, Ratcliffe and INEOS are both undergoing changes.
As part of a revamped sports organisation, United will have a new chief executive, sporting director, technical director, prospective performance director, and head of recruiting.
A number of starters are likely to go this summer as a result of the increased savagery in the transfer market.
Reportedly, Rangnick has also suggested that the club hire Julian Nagelsmann as manager once he leads Germany into their home tournament.
If United decide to let Ten Hag go after a disappointing second season, they may very well accept his offer.
