He has gone out of his way to talk to a top Manchester United target in person in order to get them to join the club.
Already, the new co-owner has made an effect on the Red Devils. He hired Omar Berrada as CEO from Manchester City and announced plans for a new stadium called “Wembley of the North” to replace Old Trafford.
John Murtough, who is in charge of football, is stepping down, and Ratcliffe and INEOS are looking for Jason Wilcox from Southampton and Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United to replace him. Ratcliffe really wants Ashworth to join Manchester United. In February, he said that the 53-year-old is “interested” in the move.
“There is no question in my mind that Dan Ashworth is one of the best sports directors in the world. He is a very strong guy. He wants to work as a sports director for Manchester United because it’s likely the biggest and toughest job like that in the world right now.
“If you were the sporting director at Manchester City, you would just be keeping things the same. At Manchester United, you have a big job of building the team up.” But he needs to decide if he wants to make the move. I think he would be a great addition to Manchester United.
“It’s clear that we spoke with Newcastle.” It’s clear that they would be sad to lose Dan. Newcastle has had a lot of success. They’ve done really well since getting new owners. They play great football, and it’s changed the club for the better. It makes sense that they would be sad to lose Dan.
When Newcastle put Ashworth on gardening leave, Ratcliffe said that what was going on was “completely stupid.”
“I think it’s a little silly. I’m not going to get involved in that. I do think it is crazy to say that a man who is very good at his job sits in his yard for one and a half years. “That is totally stupid.”
Ratcliffe had said before that he wouldn’t get “dragged” into the problem, but it looks like he is now involved.
New information about Dan Ashworth joining Manchester United
However, the Times now report that Ratcliffe has met with Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley in person to try to come to an understanding about United’s desire to sign Ashworth.
Ashley Young is on gardening leave for 18 months until United pays a £15 million settlement. However, it looks like Ratcliffe is trying to lower that amount by talking to Staveley on his own.
Reports say that Ashworth is already trying to sign Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes and Everton center-back Jarrad Branthwaite. It looks like he really wants to move to Manchester, even though he hasn’t been officially hired yet.
It looks like this story isn’t over yet. Hopefully, United can get their man before the summer, which would give Ashworth a chance to make a name for himself in the transfer window.
