Manchester United needs to finally take off a 5/10 star who lost the ball 17 times against Bournemouth.
There were some bad plays by Manchester United in their draw with the Cherries.
This wasn’t supposed to be Manchester United’s 2023–24 season or the start of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s time at Old Trafford.
United had a good start last season when they qualified for the Champions League and won the Carabao Cup. They should have built on that in Erik ten Hag’s second year as manager.
The Red Devils are still in the FA Cup semi-finals, but they were knocked out of Europe in the group rounds. They are now sixth in the table, ten points behind Aston Villa in fourth place, and have lost all four of their recent games.
Ten Hag has been under a lot of heat this season, and his time at the club now feels like it’s about to go off. How long before Ratcliffe fires him? Not at all.
When they played Bournemouth on Saturday night and tied 2-2, the Dutchman stormed out of a press meeting. His players, especially Alejandro Garnacho, have also questioned him, which doesn’t look good for United’s future.
What took place between Ten Hag and Garnacho?
That being said, the Argentine has been one of the best players this season. Who could forget that silly thing that was above Goodison Park last year? Not a lot.
His play has only gotten better and better. He has scored nine goals and set up four others. That’s pretty good for an attacker who is only 19 years old, just so you know.
On Saturday at the Vitality, he set up Bruno Fernandes’ goal in the first half, but that was the best he could do. But did he deserve Amad Diallo to come in and replace him at halftime? Perhaps not.
Samuel Luckhurst, a reporter for the Manchester Evening News, gave the left a terrible 3/10 grade after the game, saying that “the workload took its toll” and that the young player “had no joy in the first half.”
During his news conference after the game, Ten Hag said, “I think we had to repair over the right side.” The gaps were there because we didn’t play well. We had to bring a sub there when we had it. Garnacho didn’t train during the week.
As Jadon Sancho did, the Argentine player went on social media after the game and liked a number of posts that defended him.
The young winger made news during the game, but he wasn’t the only United player who got bad reviews.
Why Manchester United needs to take Rashford off the pitch now
Well, it would be great for Garnacho if he could start again next weekend, but he shouldn’t be put on the bench.
In fact, it should be Marcus Rashford, who has been a big disappointment. In his last season, the Englishman scored 30 goals, but this year he only has eight to show for his hard work.
The school product has also been hurt by his lack of work ethic. He has been seen running back to help his teammates defend without even breaking into a jog.
But, as any good forward should be, they are mostly judged on how well they do in the closing third. That’s been sadly missing this season, and it was missing again on the south coast on Saturday.
Mark Goldbridge, a famous fan of Manchester United, called the Red Devils’ performance “awful,” and they lost the ball 17 times. Luckhurst criticised them for being “wasteful,” and they were given a 5/10 rating for the game.
Rashford’s season has been like this: the 26-year-old has only created one chance to score and failed both of his pass tries against Bournemouth.
Besides that, he only won one of the nine duels he fought. As Luckhurst said, this is really useless stuff.
The wide man’s effort against the Cherries may not have been the most exciting part of their draw, but it is still important to look closely at it. Now, Ten Hag is sure to drop Garnacho, but he should also take a look at Rashford. They can neither be dropped nor picked up again.
