Manchester United must decide whether to sign Michael Olise this summer or pursue a deal for RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, who is apparently available for a lower fee.
The Red Devils have been linked with both players as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to enhance Erik ten Hag’s side for next season.
Olise has been linked with a transfer away from Crystal Palace since last summer, when he was allegedly pursued by Chelsea but failed to secure a deal.
According to The Mirror, United has added him to its list of targets, but they would need to pay £65 million to gain his services.
It is believed that Olise’s £65 million release clause will become live at the conclusion of the season, with Palace unwilling to trade him for less.
Manchester City and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the former Reading player, who is contracted at Selhurst Park until the summer of 2027.
Chelsea is still said to be interested in Olise, but their chase is unlikely to be renewed given Cole Palmer’s rise to prominence at Stamford Bridge.
This might open the way for United to strike, but the Red Devils may choose to conserve money by pursuing Olmo instead.
The Leipzig player’s release clause is reported to be £52 million, making him a cheaper alternative than Olise. According to Bild, United has already contacted Olmo’s team to explore a potential transfer, with Olmo allegedly looking for a fresh challenge this summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, United has expressed’serious interest’ in Olmo, and Barcelona has recently spoken with the player’s representation. He is said to be maintaining an open mind, implying that United might represent a significant danger to Barcelona’s chances of signing him.
Ratcliffe is apparently looking to improve United’s team with the addition of younger players, and Olise and Olmo would be ideal candidates. At just 22 years old, the former still has lots of space for development, having scored six Premier League goals and assisted three this season.
Olmo, who is three years older than Olise, has the advantage of being able to play on either flank or as a lone striker. This season, he has eight goals for Leipzig in all competitions and five assists.
