Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has approached former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel about the managerial vacancy at Old Trafford, according to Kicker.
While Tuchel is now concentrating on Bayern Munich, Ratcliffe has apparently inquired about his commitment for next season, assessing his interest in taking over the Red Devils.
Tuchel was fired at Bayern Munich when the team collapsed in the Bundesliga championship battle, enabling Bayer Leverkusen to win their first Meisterschale.
The 50-year-old will depart Die Rekordmeister at the conclusion of the season and possibly find work in England, where his reputation remains intact.
Despite Bayern’s troubles, Tuchel’s reputation as a great manager is spotless.
Tuchel guided Chelsea to their second Champions League triumph after taking over midway through the 2020/21 season. He also took them to the FA Cup final in his first season in English football, when they were defeated by Leicester City.
The former manager of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain won the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup the following season, as well as reaching the finals of both domestic cups (although losing both).
Tuchel is an experienced customer and one of Europe’s top managers. His approach is ideal for cup tournaments, and Ratcliffe is allegedly a fan.
However, the story says that Ratcliffe, who completed the London marathon before seeing United squeak through against Coventry City in the FA Cup yesterday, has yet to make a final decision on Ten Hag.
The Dutch coach has set up an FA Cup final against Manchester City and might win another title following a turbulent second season in command of the Reds.
Ten Hag has been dealing with multiple important player injuries, making it tough for the former Ajax manager to pitch his strongest XI on a continuous basis.
A victory vs City on May 25 might strengthen his job and give him additional time, or United could turn to Tuchel to lead the team.
