If Dan Ashworth moves to Old Trafford this summer, he plans to orchestrate a massive double transfer coup at Manchester United.
United team negotiating through transfer of Dan Ashworth
United have been struggling since Sir Alex Ferguson left, but under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s watchful eye, the club will undergo massive transformation in the next months. Both teams need to step up their game and improve their off-field performance after Sunday’s 3-1 loss away to Manchester City demonstrated the huge class difference between them.
At the moment, one of Ratcliffe’s main objectives is to sign Dan Ashworth, who has informed Newcastle United of his intention to quit the club and join United. Ashworth is on gardening leave at the moment. The issue is complex, however, since United are unwilling to pay Newcastle £20 million in compensation to sign him this summer; as a result, they may have to wait until 2026.
The Englishman has done an outstanding job as sports director for the Magpies, coordinating important player transactions and getting along well with Eddie Howe. He is widely considered to be one of the best in his profession. After being hailed as “really calming” and “hugely important” by Newcastle’s manager, United may have made a brilliant choice in electing him.
United have wasted a lot of money on acquisitions like Jadon Sancho and Antony, who failed to impress, since they haven’t had a person of Ashworth’s level in charge of recruiting in recent years.
As an example, Liverpool’s competitors have showed the way thanks to their outstanding sports director Michael Edwards, who proved the value of having a real expert in the sector by bringing in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for fair rates.
United target Dan Ashworth in pursuit of massive double deal
An intriguing report from Inter Live [via Sport Witness] states that Ashworth is planning to sign Nicolo Barella and Gleison Bremer to United this summer for a total of €140 million (£120 million).
While attempting to “plunder” two of the largest clubs in Serie A for a handful of key players, the 52-year-old might be in charge of a “sensational transfer operation” at Old Trafford.
United might need some midfield and defensive additions this summer, and Bremer and Barella could be just the players Erik ten Hag is looking for to strengthen his team’s backbone.
The 26-year-old former is a youthful option to Maguire, Raphael Varane, and Jonny Evans, and he has been a lynchpin for Juventus’ defender this season, winning an average of 2.7 aerial duels per game in 26 Serie A games.
Notable agreements with Dan Ashworth | Year | Cost |
---|---|---|
Alexander Isak (Real Sociedad – Newcastle) | 2022 | £63m |
Anthony Gordon (Everton – Newcastle) | 2023 | £45m |
Sven Botman (Lille – Newcastle) | 2022 | £31m |
Nick Pope (Burnley -Newcastle) | 2022 | £10m |
Tino Livramento (Southampton – Newcastle) | 2023 | £30m |
Alexis Mac Allister (Argentinos Juniors – Brighton) | 2019 | £6.9m |
Tariq Lamptey (Chelsea – Brighton) | 2020 | £5m |
Moises Caicedo (Independiente del Valle – Brighton) | 2021 | £4m |
Kaoru Mitoma (Kawasaki Frontale – Brighton) | 2021 | £2.5m |
Leandro Trossard (Genk – Brighton) | 2019 | £13m |
Barella, meantime, has long been considered one of Italy’s top midfielders; he has 51 caps for his nation and was instrumental in Inter Milan’s run to the Champions League final last season. United could use his technical prowess and physicality in the centre of the pitch, where they are now deficient. He has 1.1 critical passes per game, second only to Bruno Fernandes (3.0) in the league.
All of this might change if United are successful in signing Ashworth, but he would be a huge coup for the club and could help them gradually regain their place at the top of English football.
