After being taken off at halftime in Man United’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, Alejandro Garnacho went on social media to talk about it.
The 19-year-old put up a picture of himself from the fight on his Instagram story. He was lying on the ground with his hands on his hips. The post has since been pulled.
But the fact that the picture had a “zip mouth” emoji on it was very telling. It meant that the 19-year-old didn’t want to say what he really thought. He later changed that emoji to a different “shock face” one.
Erik ten Hag seemed to blame the Argentinian for the first goal in his press conference after the game. He said, “Down the right side, they were finding ways to hurt us, and there were jobs to be done, but they weren’t always done.” After that, things go wrong. It’s your job to side with your opponent. Part of it is working together, and part of it is being strict.
To make things worse, Garnacho liked a post on X by Mark Goldbridge, host of The United Stand. Goldbridge wrote: “Ten Hag subtly blaming Garnacho in the post-match press conference…not a good look throwing a 19-year-old who has actually delivered for you this season under the bus.” But on the other hand, it’s clear that he doesn’t want to upset the big earners.

Goldbridge’s post wasn’t the one that Garnacho liked. He also liked “Garnacho has been one of our best players this season.” He had a bad first half, but it’s ridiculous to take him off at halftime and hold him up because of the problem.
United was behind 2-1 after 45 minutes because they played badly. Dominic Solanke and Justin Kluivert scored for the home team. In the middle, Bruno Fernandes scored an equalizer that the Red Devils really didn’t deserve. Ten Hag’s team was lucky to only be behind by one goal at halftime.
The goal was scored by Garnacho, who cut the ball back for his boss. But, strangely, he was taken off at halftime and Amad Diallo came on in his place.
The Dutch manager may have made the right decision when he changed his team because the visitors tied the game again when Fernandes converted a penalty after Kobbie Mainoo’s shot bounced off of Adam Smith’s hand. It looked like Willie Kambwala fouled Ryan Christie outside the box, but VAR checked and said Bournemouth should not have been given the penalty.
But Ten Hag looked sad at the end of the game because he had only won one of his last seven Premier League games. The loss puts his team 10 points behind fifth-placed Tottenham and pretty much ends their chances of making it to the Champions League.
