Contact made: Ratcliffe makes Man Utd move for sensational manager with 4-2-3-1 formation to replace Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have approached a “sensational” manager to replace Erik ten Hag, according to a recent update.

Man United manager rumours

The Red Devils escaped a major FA Cup scare against Coventry City over the weekend, but the manner United blew a three-goal lead may not have helped Ten Hag’s long-term future at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe was at Wembley Stadium to see the semi-final, and there have been several suggestions that the new co-owner may make a change in the dugout this summer.

Previous reports stated that Ten Hag’s future was 50/50, with early negotiations already underway with Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi. Gareth Southgate, England’s manager, has also been mentioned as a potential possibility, as has Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. Surprisingly, Brentford’s Thomas Frank has been listed as another major target, although ties to Graham Potter have persisted.

However, it seems that United has made a move for a new manager, since this announcement comes hours after the FA Cup semi-final.

Manchester United made touch with Thomas Tuchel.
According to Kicker writer Georg Holzner, the Red Devils, especially Ratcliffe, have spoken with Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, who is expected to leave the Allianz Arena at the conclusion of the season.

“It is doubtful that Thomas Tuchel will stay at FC Bayern. The FCB management is convinced that the choice was correct. Manchester United has already contacted Tuchel.

Holzner later added: “Owner Ratcliffe, who strongly appreciates Tuchel, has questioned the current Bayern coach about a commitment for the following season in the event that the club parted ways with Erik ten Hag at the conclusion of the season. Tuchel is presently focused only on FC Bayern.

Tuchel, who uses a 4-2-3-1 formation, has prior Premier League experience with Chelsea and, despite failing to win the Bundesliga, has Bayern in the Champions League semi-finals.

The 50-year-old seems to be on his way out of Germany this summer, so United might hire a Champions League-winning manager, whom former Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri described as “sensational”.

“When Thomas came, we realised how well-organized his crew is. He gives us a lot of movies, facts, and knowledge that will be really useful on the field. The crew is well-organized, and he’s doing an excellent job. We need to take advantage of him and get the most out of him.”

A transfer to Old Trafford appears like one to monitor, and with Ratcliffe a fan and Tuchel expected to be available, the pieces appear to be coming into place.
