Erik ten Hag makes astonishing claim about Man Utd career after 60th injury of season

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is worried about the number of injuries in his team and admits he has only been allowed to choose his ‘favourite’ side once since joining the club.

The Red Devils have suffered three further injuries this week ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Coventry.

Sofyan Amrabat, Mason Mount, and Willy Kambwala have been sidelined, along with Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof.

The FA Cup represents United’s last opportunity to save their season, since the team is out of contention for Champions League participation.

Ten Hag is fighting to save his job, but he claims he hasn’t been able to field a completely healthy side since the 2-1 win against Manchester City at Old Trafford in February 2023.

‘In 18 months, I’ve never seen my beloved team on the field because the players are injured. That worries me,” remarked Ten Hag.

‘In fact, last season’s home game against Manchester City was the only occasion we had a complete roster and I could choose my side. In all of the previous games, we were always dealing with injuries. That is typical in football, but not in the numbers we have seen.

‘When you have as many injuries as we have in critical, essential positions, you cannot provide the outcomes you want. That is my truth. Others may have other truths, but I cannot devote attention to that.”

‘I understand what we’re doing here, and I know why I’m here: to deliver trophies and produce economic value. We’re working on them.

‘During the process, you will have difficulties, and I can see this realistically and reasonably. I am simply concerned with improving my team and people. That is what I am here for.
