‘Fantastic’ Jadon Sancho gets a message from Erik ten Hag after Borussia Dortmund knocks Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League, but Manchester United manager says there are still ‘problems’ with the forward’s future at Old Trafford.
Sancho was very important to Dortmund’s success. He started both games of their Champions League quarterfinal against Atletico Madrid and helped them win 5–4. Even though the player played very well on loan at Dortmund, his dispute with Ten Hag is still going on, which is making it hard for him to improve his chances at United.
THE LARGER PICTURE
Ten Hag praised Sancho’s skill and made it clear that he had no doubts about the winger’s abilities. Instead, he praised Sancho for bringing his career back to life in Germany, but he made it clear that ability alone can’t fix the issues that led to him having to go on loan from Manchester United.
WHAT THE TEN HAG SAID
When asked about international football, Ten Hag told reporters, “Of course, I follow it. I also follow the players on loan at other clubs.” The game between Dortmund and Atletico Madrid was great. Dortmund played really well, which is good news for Jadon as well. The result was good for Dortmund because of what he did.
However, Ten Hag did not hold back when asked if Sancho’s future at Old Trafford had changed. He said, “No, but we know Jadon Sancho is a great football player, so that is not a surprise for us.” That’s not the point.”
WHAT DID YOU KNOW?
Even though Sancho has done well on loan in Germany, it has made it harder for Manchester United to secure a spot in the Champions League for next season. Based on UEFA’s country rating, England, Italy, and Germany are all trying to get an extra spot. Dortmund’s progress has helped Germany in their quest for a fifth Champions League spot in a bigger version of the competition starting next season. English will still have four spots, which is very bad news for United’s chances of making it to the Champions League.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Dortmund is getting ready to play PSG in the semi-finals of the Champions League, while Manchester United is focused on the FA Cup. Their next game, against Coventry City, gives them a chance to make it to the cup final and save their season by winning a trophy.
