I couldn’t hold it: Arne Slot sent fascinating message to Erik ten Hag over united transfer rumours

The prospective next manager of Liverpool Arne Slot has a close relationship with one of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United players. In regards to the man in question, he even offered counsel to his fellow Dutchman.

Arne Slot is being considered by Liverpool and Feyenoord as Jürgen Klopp’s replacement. The similarities to Erik ten Hag are strikingly apparent.

Naturally, it wasn’t as though he needed to replace a manager of Klopp’s caliber. However, Ten Hag went from winning an Eredivisie championship to leading one of the most prosperous teams in English football—a path Slot is probably going to follow this summer.

Despite ten Hag’s positive debut season at Manchester United, the Red Devils have underperformed this year. The majority of the time they take on the field right now, they appear to be a confused mess. If Slot is appointed manager of the Reds, Liverpool supporters will be hoping that his tenure is substantially longer than two years.

Tyrell Malacia, a left-back, is another connection between the Feyenoord manager and the present Manchester United team. After making 50 appearances for Slot as a manager, he is currently the 18th most used player in his career.

Nevertheless, during their time together, Malacia failed to make a lasting impression on the prospective manager of Liverpool. Slot forewarned Ten Hag about the player’s “complacent and arrogant” tendencies in 2022, just before he departed Feyenoord to sign with Manchester United.

In an interview with Bleed Orange in April of that year, Slot offered some insightful insights on Malacia and hinted at his ideal player for the position of full-back on his squad.

We’ve had more possession of the ball as a team this season, so he must now be ready for any counterattack. He’s handling this nicely, Slot said.

“It appears that he taunts opponents a little too much. To persuade them to bite, we almost reveal too much of the ball,” Slot continued. Sometimes it’s excessive. Sometimes, he appears a little too confident, almost conceited. I discuss that with him.”

With United, the 24-year-old hasn’t had many chances to show his previous manager who’s right or wrong. Malacia did play in 39 games during his first season, but injuries have prevented him from playing this season.

Nonetheless, Premier League managers are not usually thus honest about possible shortcomings in their own players. If Slot accepts the Liverpool position, it will be interesting to see if he continues to be thus refreshingly honest.

Liverpool.com states: Considering some of the players Manchester United has signed recently, a guy accused of arrogance feels like a natural fit. At Liverpool, Klopp has tried to steer clear of these kinds of people, and it seems Slot feels the same way. That is encouraging if he is hired as the Reds’ next manager.
