Christian Falk of BILD says that Manchester United is already in serious talks with the agents of Bayer Leverkusen back Jeremie Frimpong about a summer move.
Man United’s first-team right backs are Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the future of Wan-Bissaka at the club is unclear, so the team could look to sign a new player. There are no talks about a new deal for Wan-Bissaka until his current deal ends in June 2025, so he could be sold this summer.
It was reported by Falk in his “Caught Offside” piece that United want to sign Frimpong, whose deal from last year includes a £34 million release option.
The well-known reporter also said that the Dutchman’s management is already in direct contact with the Red Devils about a possible summer move.
When Frimpong first joined Leverkusen, he played right back, but under boss Xabi Alonso, he has become a regular right wing-back over the last 18 months.
The 23-year-old has been at his best because of this. In 37 games this season, he has scored 12 goals and set up 11 others.
United wants to get a new attacking right back this summer, and Frimpong’s skills would make him a great fit between them.
He is one of the best at making runs that cross, and he has also done a great job of making chances. He might be the next Trent Alexander-Arnold on their team.
Under boss Erik ten Hag, Dalot has shown promise for United, but the Portuguese player isn’t creative enough to regularly help set up goals.
He would be better without Frimpong, and the youngster could become the first-choice right back for ten Hag or whoever leads the club next season.
His coming could happen at the same time that Wan-Bissaka leaves. The 26-year-old doesn’t seem to fit in with the team’s style of play because he doesn’t attack.
