Manchester United’s left back will miss the whole season after initially putting off surgery plans
Tyrell Malacia, a Dutch left back who hurt his knee meniscus, probably won’t be able to play for Manchester United until next season.
Throughout the season, Manchester United has had a lot of problems with injuries in the defence. However, left back has been the biggest worry.
Malacia and first-choice Luke Shaw have both missed a lot of the season, leaving Erik ten Hag short-staffed in that spot. When a boss doesn’t have their main and backup left back, it’s hard to know what to do.
Malacia hasn’t played a single minute this season because of this. He last played for his country in June, when they played Croatia in the UEFA Nations League semi-final.
As per The Athletic, Malacia disobeyed United when it was decided last summer that he should have surgery on his knee because it hurt during pre-season training.
I find this upsetting because other players who have had the same problem have come back quickly. For example, Amad hurt his knee in preseason and couldn’t play for five months. He finally returned to the team in December.
United suggested a surgeon in London, but the 24-year-old wants to choose his own surgeon in the Netherlands. The surgery took place without the club’s knowledge, which is why there have been so many delays.
The news source also says that Ten Hag thinks Malacia’s absence has been “underestimated” and that it is a “key factor in United’s struggles” this season.
Malacia was Ten Hag’s first player to sign when he bought him from Feyenoord for €17 million. He had a chance to play in a lot of games this season, but Shaw’s injuries kept him from doing so. During his time with United, he played 39 times and missed just one game.
We should be worried about our two left backs because United is going to sign a new one in the summer. They spent more time in the locker room than on the game last season.
