Reports indicate that Manchester United could opt to terminate the contract of 26-year-old midfielder Donny van de Beek to alleviate their wage bill burdens.
Van de Beek’s arrival at Old Trafford from Ajax in 2020 for a fee of £34.6 million has not yielded the desired results for either party. Despite spending four years with the Red Devils, the Dutch midfielder finds himself on his second loan spell away from the club.
With just two goals and two assists in 62 appearances for Manchester United, Van de Beek’s transition to the Premier League has been far from successful, contrasting sharply with his impressive performances in the Eredivisie.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones expressed his sentiments regarding Van de Beek’s plight, suggesting that the midfielder may never don the Manchester United jersey again.
Jones remarked, “It is a pretty sad situation because he should have been a good signing. At this stage, it might even be a case of agreeing to let him leave for free if it gets him off the wage bill.”
Van de Beek’s weekly wage of £120,000 appears disproportionate to his on-field contributions, prompting discussions about the feasibility of parting ways with the player to alleviate financial strains.
Furthermore, the club’s readiness to potentially offload high-earning players like Raphael Varane underscores the ruthless approach towards underperforming assets.
If a seasoned player like Varane is deemed dispensable, Van de Beek’s future at the club seems even more precarious.
Despite Eintracht Frankfurt’s reluctance to exercise their option to sign Van de Beek permanently, it appears increasingly likely that his tenure at Manchester United will be viewed as a disappointment, with the player failing to live up to expectations in the Premier League.
As fans come to terms with the underwhelming impact of the former Ajax star, speculation mounts regarding his imminent departure from Manchester United at the conclusion of the season.
