Ridiculous: Micah Richards says striker United sold for £10M was a better Goal Finisher than Alan Shearer prime

Manchester United has had some incredible strikers over the years. Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie—the list is almost infinite.

United has had many terrific attackers, but Ruud van Nistelrooy may have been the greatest finisher of them all.

The Dutchman may not have toiled as hard as Wayne Rooney or been as strong as Robin van Persie, but he had a knack for finding the goal.

Micah Richards was speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast on Van Nistelrooy’s time at Manchester United, and he suggested that he may be the finest finisher in league history.

Richards praised Ruud van Nistelrooy as a better finisher than Alan Shearer, another Manchester United star.

“Do you think he’s a better finisher than you (Shearer)?” I’m not joking here. Going one-on-one, I’d choose Ruud above anybody else. I’d choose you for any goal, but one-on-one, I’d go with Ruud. Richards commented, “His goal-to-game ratio must be ridiculous.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy was lethal.
Alan Shearer scored more goals in the Premier League than Van Nistelrooy, but as Richards points out, the Dutchman may have been a greater finisher.

Van Nistelrooy was ice cold in front of goal, knowing just where to locate the corner in every circumstance.

Of course, Shearer understood what he was doing, but when it came to pure finishing, Van Nistelrooy may have been the superior player.

Van Nistelrooy was brilliant for Manchester United, and although his time in England was cut short by a £10 million transfer to Real Madrid in 2006, he is still regarded as an all-time great in the Premier League.
