Bastian Schweinsteiger, a former player for Manchester United, has recently spoken up about his first thoughts on the team after signing a contract.
The icon of Bayern Munich made 35 appearances for United after joining the team in 2015, during Louis van Gaal’s tenure.
Before leaving for the Chicago Fire in the Major League Soccer, Bastian Schweinsteiger also spent a short period of time with Jose Mourinho.
Despite joining the team at a time when they weren’t at their best, the German managed to win the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Europa League in his two seasons there.
Even though Schweinsteiger may have outlived his playing career, he continued to make contributions off the field as well.
Having said that, the midfield player has been talking with Gary Neville on The Overlap about his time at the team and his messy departure.
Schweinsteiger also revealed in the interview how he felt and was treated when he initially showed up at Old Trafford.
Although the World Cup champion acknowledged that the club’s facilities did not really excite him, he did praise the personnel for their kind welcome.
“People were amazing, how polite they were,” Schweingsteiger added. That was excellent.
“There’s nothing better than strolling on the pitch at the stadium.” Facilities aren’t quite as contemporary as I had anticipated.
Manchester United supporters won’t be too surprised by this, of course.
It has long been recognised that the team has to make improvements to its stadium and other facilities, and with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in place, things should get better.
Erik ten Hag and his group shouldn’t use it as an excuse just yet, but it’s certainly not helping their case.
While on-field improvements are undoubtedly necessary, a club makeover may also be beneficial.
Naturally, with all the rumours swirling over Ten Hag’s future, it will be intriguing to watch whether the club’s new manager is the guiding light of the new era.
And even though he hasn’t been connected much, Thomas Tuchel could be demonstrating why United should consider him at this time.
