According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Man United is certain that a proposal of between £60 and £70 million will be sufficient to acquire Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
It is thought that Everton may sell the 21-year-old before June 30 in order to incorporate his price in their 2023–24 campaign finances and prevent further point deductions.
Though they will probably pay in an effort to try to prevent another run-in with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the Toffees are anxious to hang onto the centre defender.
Football Insider has been informed by a reliable source that Branthwaite is Man United’s “top target” as they attempt to strengthen their defence this summer.
The England Under-21 international has long been admired by the Old Trafford team, who are prepared to make their first off-season acquisition of him as well as the first under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS regime.
This season, Branthwaite has made 36 appearances for Everton in all competitions, starting every one of those games.
The centre defender, who signed a new contract in 2023, is bound to Goodison Park until June 2027. He was selected for his first senior England call-up last month.
Under Ratcliffe and INEOS, Man United is eager to centre its rebuilding on the 21-year-old.
Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane’s contracts expire in June, while Willy Kambwala, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Victor Lindelof will all be available for the 2024–25 season.
