Manchester United were difficult to watch on Saturday, but one Spanish loanee was absolutely smoking.
Because United fans saw Antony score after missing four good opportunities, and Alejandro Garnacho also failed to convert two.
In a 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Jadon Sancho managed to find the back of the net, adding insult to injury.
Mason Greenwood was the main attraction, however, as he scored twice and set up another goal in Getafe’s 3-1 victory against Almeria.
Naturally, this is just the most recent of many outstanding results this season. What, however, are the Spanish news outlets making of his performance?
We’ll have to see…
How is Mason Greenwood being covered in the Spanish press?
According to several Spanish news sources, Greenwood scored twice and assisted on a third goal in a rout of Almeria.
According to Marca, a Getafe squad “with an extraordinary Greenwood” defeated Almeria. After that, they threw in their star ranking system, and he was named match MVP with three stars.
Then there was AS, who described Greenwood as a “little genius full of talent who’s trying to redirect his promising football career at Getafe.” In addition to being named the match’s MVP, they rated him with three stars.
According to Jornada, the third source we consulted, Greenwood’s play “condemned the Almeria team to relegation to the Second Division.”
Last but not least, El Periodico felt the same way, praising “Great performance by the Englishman Mason Greenwood” and going on to say that Greenwood was “key” to the victory.
For Manchester United, this can only mean positive things.
United and Ineos will have an easier time selling or loaning Greenwood out this summer if he performs well.
We recently learned that United would expect at least £50 million when selling, so a sale this summer may be difficult and a loan may be more feasible.
Be that as it may, performances like these have persuaded Fabio Capello, and they will do wonders for luring in the big bucks this summer.
Considering the winger is reportedly intent on remaining in Spain, a return to United is unlikely at this stage, leaving those two possibilities.
