Manchester United will make a new appearance next season after signing a sponsorship arrangement with TeamViewer. Following last night’s Europa League victory against AC Milan, it’s been a busy day off the pitch at Old Trafford as focus shifts to the rest of this season—and now into next.
That’s because United, who have been drawn against Granada in the competition’s quarterfinals, have also announced a new five-year agreement with the German technology corporation. It’s a deal worth roughly £235 million for the club, which is poised to end its seven-year partnership with American automaker Chevrolet at the end of this season.
But, who precisely is TeamViewer? Here is a look at United’s new shirt sponsors.
Who are TeamViewer?
Founded in 2005, the German-based technology business is little recognised in some places but has bases on all major continents, with its headquarters in Göppingen, a town in Germany’s Stuttgart region.
Their official website describes them as a company that specialises in remote desktop software and “focuses on cloud-based technologies to enable online remote support and collaboration globally.”
TeamViewer provides users with a global platform for connecting, monitoring, and managing computers, equipment, and other devices, including mobile phones and tablets.
According to the company’s 2019 financial report, revenue was €390.2 million, and the controlling group is estimated to have assets of over €1 billion. TeamViewer employs almost 1,000 people worldwide, with Oliver Steil serving as CEO and chairman since January 2018.
What is the deal worth?
United will receive £235 million from the TeamViewer contract over the following five years. That equates to almost £47 million per season, illustrating the club’s tremendous commercial appeal even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has generated numerous financial issues in sport and society as a whole.
It’s been compared to the collaboration between Spanish powerhouse Barcelona and Ratuken, a Japanese electrical and internet commerce company.

TeamViewer’s founder and CEO, Steil, echoed this excitement, noting, “We are very excited about this partnership, as it will significantly expand our brand positioning and help us market our comprehensive solutions portfolio to all customer segments globally.”
Moreover, the partnership between Manchester United and TeamViewer aims to elevate the fan experience at the Theatre of Dreams. Steil expressed pride in being chosen as a partner for Manchester United’s ongoing technological endeavors.
