After a long absence from football administration, Zinedine Zidane has taken a firm stand on the matter. After almost three years away from Real Madrid, Zidane has dropped hints about the Frenchman’s potential return to the bench.
After an incredible run with Real Madrid, Zidane, one of the greatest players of his time, made the jump to senior management in 2016. Zidane, a winner of the 1998 World Cup, saw his managerial status soar after leading Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League victories from 2016–2018. He is now widely regarded as one of the game’s top managers.
In spite of this, Zidane stepped aside from management after the 2018 Champions League final before making a triumphant comeback to Real Madrid in 2019. Zidane won La Liga in 2019–20 during his brief but pleasant two years at the Santiago Bernabeu before leaving for a second time in 2021.
What Zinedine Zidane Has to say on his managerial Position
There is speculation of Zidane’s comeback soon after he has gone almost three years without a management position. Although Zidane was cagey about his future plans, he did hint that a return was in the cards when questioned about the likelihood of him soon taking on a management position.
According to express sport, Where do you see the future in Italy? “Why not?” Zidane said in response to a question on his potential success in Italy. There is no set pattern. I would want to go back on the bench, but right now I’m occupied with other things.
Given the Premier League’s standing as one of the top, if not the greatest, in Europe, that might be advantageous for teams in the league. Most notably, Zidane’s desire might encourage Manchester United and Chelsea to make a managerial change, since both clubs have failed to establish consistent form this season.
Mauricio Pochettino is now under fire after Sunday’s humiliating League Cup final loss, but Erik ten Hag has also been under scrutiny this season for his team’s lacklustre play. Zidane is considered to be among the leading candidates to replace both clubs’ current managers should they decide to do so.
Erik Ten Hag will hope to calm down any pressure from his side as they travel this weekend to the other side of manchester the Eithad Stadium to look horns with the defending champions.
